The Effects of Integrated and Specific Treatment Program on the Knowledge and Health Control Execution of Asthma Patients’ Mothers and Their Pulmonary Function

Abstract

|
Purpose: Bronchial asthma is a chronic and relapsing respiratory disease. It is recently increasing in Korea as well as overseas with the result of environmental pollution and changes in diet and environment. Thus, it is imperative for the families with asthmatic children to improve their care competency for caring their weak children. The purpose of this
study was to evaluate the effects of integrated and specific treatment program on the knowledge and health control
execution of asthma patients’ mothers and their pulmonary function.
Method: The mothers of 3 to 9 years old children who had a diagnosed asthma by K university hospital participated in the research. There are 10 mothers in the experimental group and the other 10 mothers were assigned in the comparison group. The period for collecting the data is 6 months, from March to September in 2006. The data analysis is done using a SPSS/PC+ program.
Results: The first, second hypothesis: ‘Those mothers who are provided with an integrated and specific treatment program on asthma may have better knowledge and health control execution than those in the control group’, The third hypothesis: ‘The asthmatic children whose mothers are provided with integrated and specific treatment program on asthma may have better pulmonary function than the others whose mothers were in control group.’ are supported statistically.
Conclusion: The integrated and specific treatment program on asthma has an effect on the knowledge, health control execution of patients’ mothers and the patients’ pulmonary function.
